The City Council has unveiled a 46 million euro investment plan for the Barceloneta neighborhood, with 70% already executed. A key project is the rehabilitation of the Cooperativa Segle XX building, costing 3.7 million euros. This 682-square-meter property will be transformed into a space for youth and the community, scheduled to open in early 2027. The building was expropriated by the Council in 2017.
This investment package is part of municipal projects like the Pla de Barris and the Pacte per Ciutat Vella 2035. Mayor Jaume Collboni emphasized the goal of enabling residents to continue living in the neighborhood, described as having significant "social vulnerability and tourist pressure".
The total budget allocates 21.5 million euros for public facilities, 17.8 million for urban space transformation, and 6.8 million for housing rehabilitation. Measures for climate change adaptation are also included. Another notable project is the renovation of Plaça del Poeta Boscà, in front of the market, with a budget of 1.2 million euros.
