The Festa Major of Gràcia will officially begin on the afternoon of August 14th with the reading of the opening speech by journalist and historian Vicenç Sanclemente. This year, up to 23 streets in the neighborhood will participate in the traditional decoration contest, with awards ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, August 19th, at 6 PM in the plaça de la Vila.
The 'quiet night' initiative, taking place on August 17th, will be maintained. This evening will replace loud concerts with low-sound intensity activities, aiming to improve coexistence between attendees and the rest of the neighborhood. This measure, successfully piloted in the summer of 2024, is now becoming a regular practice.
The deputy mayor and councilor for Gràcia, Laia Bonet, highlighted the measures taken by the Barcelona City Council to ensure safe and inclusive festivities, emphasizing the festival's role as a community space that strengthens neighborhood ties.
This year's poster, created by Pol Lupiáñez Ortega, places popular dancing at the center as a symbol of identity and cohesion, representing Gràcia's capacity as a meeting place.
To ensure safety, the presence of the Guàrdia Urbana and Mossos d’Esquadra will be reinforced. The 'punt lila' (purple point) at plaça de la Revolució will continue to offer advice against sexist and LGTBI-phobic abuse and aggression, alongside other information points and safe routes.
The city council also reminded attendees of recommendations to combat the heat, such as frequent hydration, seeking shade, and special attention to children and the elderly, with a map of district fountains available.
