L’Energètica, the public renewable energy company, has initiated a new phase of its campaign to deploy solar photovoltaic installations across Catalonia's public education network. In the coming months, 234 new rooftop installations will be implemented, adding to the 107 actions already completed, as announced by the company.
Once this campaign is finished, L’Energètica will have an installed capacity of 56 MW on high school rooftops. This priority deployment in the education sector aims to achieve the goal that by 2028, all technically suitable high school rooftops will be equipped with solar panels. The planned 341 installations, including those completed and in progress, represent over half of the viable centers, and the company is already planning the remainder to meet this target.
The territorial distribution of the 341 installations includes 177 actions in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, 52 in the Girona region, 44 in Camp de Tarragona, 34 in Penedès, 21 in central Catalonia, 6 in Ponent, 4 in Terres de l'Ebre, and 3 in Alt Pirineu i Aran. This boost to renewable generation will supply centers with clean, local energy.
This collective self-consumption model facilitates the distribution of surplus energy generated on rooftops to other public centers of the Generalitat within a five-kilometer radius, such as Mossos d'Esquadra police stations, judicial facilities, or primary care centers (CAPs), thereby generating economic savings for these facilities.
L’Energètica (Energies Renovables Públiques de Catalunya, SAU) is tasked with multiplying renewable energy generation for the Catalan administration's public services. The company's objective is to manage a generation park of at least 1,000 MW by 2040, ensuring clean, local, and stable-priced energy for citizens through its public services.
