This increase is due to the intensified controls that the Local Police are carrying out jointly with the Mossos d’Esquadra throughout the city. Furthermore, since the end of January, a homologated speed detection device specifically for measuring the speed of personal mobility vehicles (PMVs) has been in use.
This tool allows for precise verification of scooters modified to exceed the 25 km/h speed limit, enabling administrative action. Cases have been detected of vehicles traveling at speeds exceeding 114 km/h and even 133.5 km/h.
Modified scooters exceeding 25 km/h are seized and taken to the municipal depot, with drivers facing a 500 euro fine. Vehicles without mandatory civil liability insurance or those not complying with current regulations are also removed from circulation.
The controls have a dual objective: to improve road safety and prevent crime. More than half of the violent robberies in the city are committed using a scooter as a getaway vehicle, making PMV checks a strategic tool for public security.
In this context, operations have been expanded to include scooter sales and repair shops to verify the origin of vehicles, detect potential stolen scooters, and prevent the illegal sale or modification of vehicles.
The L'Hospitalet City Council and the Local Police reaffirm their commitment to safe and responsible mobility, reminding that tampering with speed limitation systems is a serious offense resulting in immediate vehicle confiscation and a 500 euro fine.
Controls will be further intensified in the coming months to protect pedestrians, improve coexistence in public spaces, and remove risky vehicles from circulation. The Local Police will maintain this course of action both on the streets and in establishments related to PMVs.
