The Parliament has rejected the amendments to the entirety presented by Junts, PP, Vox, CUP, and Aliança Catalana, thanks to the votes in favor from PSC, Esquerra, and Comuns. The latter parties agreed to support the public accounts a few weeks ago.
During the debate, the Minister of Economy highlighted the political responsibility and "sense of country" of the parties that have facilitated the budget's approval. However, tension surrounding the disagreement with teachers over the Education agreement, which led to the rejection of ending strikes, marked the plenary session.
From Esquerra, Esther Capella called on the government for a "new effort in negotiation" to reach an agreement with the entire educational community and urged the groups to "conspire to save education." For their part, Jéssica Albiach, from Comuns, urged the government to "start over" the negotiation and convene "parties, unions, and families" to define the school model.
Before the unions' rejection of the Education agreement was known, the Minister of Economy, Alícia Romero, referred to the new regional financing. She asked Junts and the PP not to block this issue in the Congress of Deputies, despite their negative vote on the Catalan accounts. "Let's think about the country, let's think about the citizens, about these almost 4.7 billion euros that will reach Catalonia to improve people's lives," she stated.
From Junts, Mònica Sales defended the economic concert in the face of the new financing proposal and asserted that the budgets "do not solve the country's problems." "You will have budgets, but you will continue to have the country upside down. The Government will gain stability and Catalonia will lose prosperity," she summarized.
The representative for the PP, Alejandro Fernández, confirmed his group's resounding rejection of the budgets, announcing "we will vote no to the socialist trough." The accounts will continue their parliamentary process, with the presentation of partial amendments in committees. The final vote in the plenary session is scheduled for July 2.
