The historic Montserrat Market, located in the Nou Barris district of Barcelona, will permanently close its doors on March 21st to relocate to a brand-new facility nearby.

After more than six decades, the vendors at Via Favència are experiencing a mix of nostalgia and excitement. The new building, located at Via Favència 241, will feature 17 fresh produce stalls, an ALDI supermarket, and other commercial services in a more modern setting.

"This week we are already starting to feel butterflies in our stomachs."

Seven out of the eight remaining vendors will continue their business in the new market. Family establishments like Legumbres Casanovas, which opened in 1960, and the Arturo Garzón greengrocer represent the long-standing tradition of local commerce in the neighborhood.
While the move involves a significant financial investment, stall owners emphasize that the aging condition of the original 1960s building made the relocation necessary to adapt to modern standards and preserve the market's community essence.
