The day began with the partial resumption of service at 06:00 h, as previously announced. However, circulation was suspended at 06:30 h due to an IT problem at the Adif control center in Estació de França, and the incident recurred a second time at 07:00 h, finally being restored at 07:05 h, already with massive delays.
The situation of Cercanías is regrettable, it is a burden for the social and economic development of the country.
This new episode of railway chaos had a direct impact on road mobility, with traffic jams of up to 15 kilometers on key access roads to Barcelona, such as the A-2, C-31, C-32, C-58, and AP-7. The Catalan Traffic Service registered a 2% increase in traffic, and several accidents forced temporary closures on the Ronda de Dalt.
The crisis has intensified political pressure. Parties such as ERC, Junts, and Comuns have called for resignations from both the Catalan Government and the Spanish executive, directly pointing to Minister Óscar Puente and Councillor Sílvia Paneque. Nevertheless, sources from the Presidència confirmed that President Illa rules out dismissing Paneque.
Minister Puente explained that two failures had occurred at the control center and did not rule out the hypothesis of a cyberattack. Meanwhile, user platforms, which estimate that around 400,000 daily commuters are affected, are organizing a joint demonstration in Barcelona for February 7.
