The Emergency Medical System and the traffic accident investigation unit of the Guàrdia Urbana (City Police) were dispatched to the scene. The local police are now investigating the causes of the incident.
This marks the sixth traffic accident fatality in the city during 2026. Of these, four have been motorcyclists, a figure approaching the five motorcyclist fatalities recorded throughout the previous year. In 2025, out of a total of 11 fatalities, five were motorcyclists, five were pedestrians, and one was a cyclist.
The first motorcyclist to die in Barcelona this year was a 36-year-old woman in an accident on the same Ronda del Litoral on January 19th. Subsequently, a 25-year-old motorcyclist died on February 21st on Carrer de Nicaragua, and another 49-year-old on February 25th in the Zona Franca. Additionally, a cyclist died on January 9th in the Eixample, and an 83-year-old woman was hit by a vehicle on April 14th in Sant Gervasi – la Bonanova.
The Barcelona City Council compiles an annual official count of traffic accident victims. It is important to note that this registry does not include all deaths, such as those of seriously injured individuals who pass away days after the accident, nor deaths occurring within the port of Barcelona.
