The University of Barcelona, Bellvitge University Hospital, and Boston Scientific have established the 'Training and Outreach in Pain' chair to improve patient quality of life.
The initiative aims to provide multidisciplinary training in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain. Over the next four years, specialist physicians in anesthesia and resuscitation at Bellvitge University Hospital will receive comprehensive training.
The chair integrates university resources and diverse clinical services, including pharmacology, anatomy, rehabilitation, orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, neurology, anesthesia, interventional radiology, surgery, rheumatology, nursing, oncology, and clinical psychology. This multidisciplinary approach is crucial for accurate diagnosis and the most appropriate therapeutic strategy, combining theoretical and practical sessions.
“
"Chronic pain is a transversal process and as such requires multidisciplinary assessment and treatment."
“
"Therefore, there has been great sensitivity from the University of Barcelona, Bellvitge University Hospital, and Boston Scientific to create a Chair that will respond to the transversal training needs of chronic pain specialists."
The rector of the University of Barcelona, Joan Guàrdia, highlighted the importance of institutional collaboration for improving citizen well-being. The synergy between the university, the hospital, and the support of Boston Scientific will enable the development of solutions to alleviate the challenges posed by chronic pain.
“
"This chair serves to demonstrate that joint collaboration between institutions is the best way to achieve objectives that impact the well-being and quality of life of citizens."
“
"In this case, the knowledge and expertise of the university and the hospital, with the support of Boston Scientific, will allow us to put forward solutions to alleviate the difficulties generated by chronic pain."
The manager of Bellvitge University Hospital, Dr. Cristina Capdevila, expressed confidence that the combined expertise of both institutions will help train professionals who are increasingly better equipped with more and better tools to treat chronic pain, a growing problem affecting thousands of people.
“
"As on previous occasions, we are convinced that the sum of the expertise of both institutions will help us have increasingly better-trained professionals with more and better tools at their disposal to treat chronic pain, a problem affecting tens of thousands of people and which will continue to grow."
For his part, Javier Barrio, Business Manager Iberia at Boston Scientific Neuromodulation, emphasized the company's commitment to supporting the chair and raising awareness of chronic pain, a reality that remains too invisible. He highlighted the importance of collaboration between the healthcare technology industry and the academic and clinical world to improve professional training and, ultimately, patient quality of life.
“
"Our commitment is to contribute to strengthening the Pain Chair and, with it, to give visibility to a reality that still remains too invisible: chronic pain."
“
"We believe that collaboration between the healthcare technology industry and the academic and clinical world is key to improving the training of professionals and, ultimately, the quality of life of patients."
