The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has officially approved the construction of a grade-separated junction in Cerdanyola to separate the R4 and R7 commuter rail lines.

Currently, R7 trains must cross the oncoming R4 tracks, a maneuver that limits network capacity and causes frequent delays. The new infrastructure, part of the Rodalies Plan 2020-2030, will allow trains to cross at different levels near the C-58 highway without interfering with each other.
While the project improves safety and reliability for students traveling to the UAB campus, the Association for the Promotion of Public Transport (PTP) argues that a one-kilometer single-track section will remain, suggesting that full double-tracking is still needed to resolve all bottlenecks.
