Starting in 2027, the Trinitat Nova neighborhood will feature a new and unique children's playground. The centerpiece will be a large micro-perforated canvas turtle, to be installed at the intersection of Chafarinas, Tamariu, and Palamós streets. This new space, with a budget of 2.5 million euros, is an initiative of the City Council's Neighborhood Plan and has been developed in collaboration with students from the Institut Escola Trinitat Nova.
Construction for this project is scheduled to begin in the autumn, with completion expected in September 2027. The turtle structure will be spread across three levels, each adapted for different age groups and interconnected to facilitate children's movement. The ground floor will include a large sandpit with a perimeter beach area.
The intervention area covers approximately 2,500 m², currently a space for community gathering and activities near the Trinitat Nova metro station. The new play structure will occupy 1,040 m². In addition to the play area, accessibility will be improved, vegetation increased, and a refreshment zone created.
The turtle concept originated from a proposal presented by about forty students from the Institut Escola Trinitat Nova to Mayor Jaume Collboni during a visit in 2024. Since then, the students have actively participated in the design and refinement of the project, collaborating with architects in two participatory sessions.
