The project to install shade structures in the Plaça de la Cultura de la Pau in Reus will have to go out to tender again. The first award was not formalized, which delays the execution of this action, the first in the municipal shade plan. The objective was to have it completed during the summer to combat high temperatures and sun exposure.
Initially, the Reus City Council had awarded the contract to the sole participating company, Moster Projectes SL, for an amount of 93,512.65 euros (VAT included). However, the company did not formalize the contract signing before the deadline of September 14, forcing the council to initiate a new tender procedure.
The intervention consists of the installation of a fragmented shade system. This system will be based on a grid of metal pillars onto which ochre-colored fabric bands will be attached. The bands will be stretched diagonally, creating rhomboidal openings designed to allow air and light circulation while reducing direct solar radiation.
According to the Councilor for Public Works, Daniel Marcos, the pergolas will feature a design inspired by Gaudí's trencadís mosaic, as part of the commemoration of Gaudí Year. This initiative aims to improve the climatic comfort of the children's play area and promote new neighborhood and community uses in a square that currently offers little sun protection.
