The city of Badalona has recorded its fourth homeless death of 2026 following the discovery of Jordi Fibla, 52, in a public square on March 4.

Fibla, who belonged to a well-known local family of butchers, had been living on the streets for over a year. His death has reignited the debate over the social policies of Mayor Xavier Garcia Albiol, who closed the Can Bofí Vell emergency shelter in 2024.

"Jordi was well-known in the city, and his situation had drawn attention. The shelter is in perfect condition, ready for use."

While the City Council claims that Fibla had rejected previous housing offers, social entities argue that the lack of public resources is critical. This latest tragedy follows three other deaths since January in the neighborhoods of Raval, Canyadó, and la Morera.
