The Professional Association of Educational Directors (Axia) filed an administrative appeal this Wednesday against the March 3rd resolution governing teacher assignments in Catalonia.

The group, representing 300 principals, argues that the agreement between the Government and unions CCOO and UGT violates the Catalan Education Law (LEC). The new rules cap 'profiled' positions at 3% and drastically limit the use of interviews to select staff tailored to specific educational projects.
The Barcelona assembly of public school directors has also joined the protest. Principals claim the resolution imposes an arbitrary interpretation of current laws, undermining school autonomy and the ability to manage teaching teams effectively in the Barcelonès region.

"The agreement and the resolution on teacher assignments violate the LEC and the decrees on school autonomy and staffing."

Axia is demanding an immediate rectification of the rules to prevent negative impacts on educational quality. If the Department of Education fails to respond, the association plans to take the matter to court through a contentious-administrative lawsuit.
