The 2026-2027 academic year begins tomorrow, Monday, September 14th, for over 3,000 students enrolled in the municipal music education centers of the Barcelona City Council. These centers, comprising five municipal music schools and the Municipal Conservatory of Music, offer long-term musical education and workshops for children and adults.
The IMEB has implemented fee reductions of 30%, 50%, and 70% for students aged 4 to 18 in long-term programs and for professional degree students at the Conservatory, aiming to facilitate access for families with more vulnerable economic situations.
The schools and the Conservatory contribute to the dissemination and democratization of musical practice and play a significant role in community and cultural outreach. The academic year will conclude on June 21, 2027.
This academic year, the Can Fargues Municipal Music School, located in the Horta-Guinardó district, celebrates its tenth anniversary. Various commemorative activities open to the public will be organized throughout the coming months.
The five municipal music schools (EMM Can Fargues, EMM Can Ponsic, EMM Eixample – Joan Manuel Serrat, EMM Nou Barris, and EMM Sant Andreu – Mestre Pich Santasusana) have enrolled over 2,500 students in long-term programs. Additionally, workshops and activities are offered for babies, families, and individuals over 65, with approximately 800 available places.
Students from the municipal music schools participate in concerts open to the city, both within and outside the schools, as part of cultural outreach.
The Municipal Conservatory of Music of Barcelona, located at Bruc Street, 110-112, has registered 512 enrollments for the 2026-2027 academic year in professional degree studies. The Conservatory features twenty ensembles and seventy chamber groups formed by its students.
Celebrating 140 years of service, the Conservatory continues to train musicians and enrich the city. It will organize three seasons of free concerts (autumn, winter, and spring) at the Eduard Toldrà Auditorium and offers historical audio material through Radio Web Conservatori, alongside a specialized library open to all.
The open-to-the-city program “Bruc Obert” at the Conservatory offers adults the opportunity to engage with music in four training areas. Last academic year, over 1,100 people enrolled.
