The initiative, promoted by the Barcelona Promoció Foundation, has turned the heart of the Catalan capital into a large jazz club, with performances starting at 12 PM and continuing until 10 PM. This marks the fourth edition of a monographic event that aims to bring jazz closer to the public and champion it as a symbol of freedom, dialogue, and coexistence.
Six different bands will offer a wide range of jazz sounds. Kicking off the marathon were the Sunset Rhythm Kings, a sextet from Girona who transported attendees to the rhythms of early 20th-century New Orleans. Even before the first concert began, the venue was already packed, with dozens of people enjoying the performance from every available spot.
“"This environment we have is wonderful. At the beginning of Passeig de Gràcia, having the opportunity to listen to jazz from six groups, all the colors of jazz, for free, from 12 PM to 10 PM, is wonderful."
The contagious rhythm of the New Orleans pieces encouraged the audience to improvise a dance area, with several couples enjoying the danceable spirit of the 1920s and 1930s. This energy spread among attendees, who either followed the music or interacted with the musicians.
The musical day includes an aesthetic journey ranging from foundational swing to new global hybridizations, featuring groups such as Quiet Colors, Glenda del E, Laura Simó & Ignasi Terraza Trio, Momi Maiga, and La Vella Dixieland. This initiative is part of the activities commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Barcelona Jazz Festival.
