The first district plenary session of 2026 in la Vila de Gràcia, Barcelona, highlighted a sharp ideological divide regarding the regulation of local commercial property prices.

A proposal by ERC to implement rent caps for local shops was supported by BComú and PSC, but faced opposition from Junts and PP. Conservative representatives argued that reducing taxes would be more effective for business owners than market intervention, marking a clear left-right split in the council.
In contrast, all political groups joined forces to oppose the closure of the performing arts baccalaureate at the Vila de Gràcia institute. Despite this local consensus, the Education Consortium currently intends to proceed with the closure based on city-wide planning criteria.
The session also approved the creation of a Sectoral Council for the Social Use of Catalan. This new initiative aims to promote the language through dialogue between the government and local associations, pending the establishment of a city-wide language council.
