The rail freight connection between the Port of Barcelona and France will be suspended for seven weeks starting this March due to critical structural repairs required in the Rubí tunnel.

The Minister of Territory, Sílvia Paneque, informed the Parliament on Thursday that safety sensors advised an immediate halt to train traffic. The 130-meter tunnel has been suffering from cracks and water leaks, which previously caused a two-week closure in January.

"The contingency plans we have mean that goods entering from the north will reach Llagostera and, from there, will be transported by truck."

This shutdown forces logistics companies to use alternative routes through Lleida or switch to road transport from la Llagosta. The incident adds to the ongoing instability of the Catalan rail network, which also saw disruptions this week on the R3 line near Figaró.
