The plan, set to run until 2028 with inspections of 463 companies, aims to regularize the Economic Activities Tax (EAT) for tourist use homes (HUTs) and tourist apartments. To date, 150 cases have been closed, resulting in 457 EAT liquidations and an increase in the annual register by €220,302.94.
This initiative is the result of collaboration between the City Council and the Tax Agency of Catalonia, which has provided data on tourist accommodations. The inspection has cross-referenced this information with companies registered under EAT headings related to property rental and lodging.
The Deputy Mayor for Economy, Jordi Valls, highlighted the municipal commitment to using taxation to reorganize tourist apartment activity, reduce its impact on housing access, and move towards a more sustainable tourism model.
The plan's objectives include registering companies with annual turnovers exceeding one million euros for EAT, regularizing surfaces and accommodations, and detecting irregularities such as undeclared works or issues with the Property Tax (IBI).
The plan is being implemented in three phases, starting in the third quarter of 2024. The second phase, currently underway, will complete ongoing procedures, while the third phase (2027-2028) will inspect the remaining entities.
