The Barcelona City Council has initiated the comprehensive rehabilitation works of the Marina Bridge, a historic infrastructure built between 1926 and 1928. The intervention, with an estimated budget of 6 million euros, aims to reinforce its structure, improve its waterproofing, and restore its historic ornamental elements. The work is part of the Pla Endreça (Tidy Up Plan) for public space maintenance and will be carried out over the next 14 months, until the autumn of 2027.
Technical inspections have confirmed that the bridge is structurally sound, but minor and moderate pathologies associated with material aging, moisture from leaks, and surface degradation have been detected. Interventions include reinforcing the deck with a new reinforced concrete slab, complete waterproofing, concrete repair, and restoration of artificial stone ornamental elements such as pilasters, cornices, and balustrades.
Work will also be carried out to conserve the original metal railings and improve the upper public space, renewing the pavement, roadways, sidewalks, lighting, and signage. The intervention will be phased to minimize disruptions to vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic, as well as to nearby facilities like the CEM Fort Pienc sports center and ADIF railway lines.
This rehabilitation is part of the Pla Endreça, a municipal program to enhance public space maintenance. The Marina Bridge project joins the rehabilitation of the Vallcarca viaduct and the facades of the former Renfe workshops in Clot park. The total investment in road structures within the Pla Endreça between 2026 and 2027 will be 16.5 million euros.
