Renfe to increase Avant seat capacity by 50% between Lleida, Tarragona, and Barcelona

The railway operator will introduce high-capacity Series 106 trains to meet growing passenger demand.

Starting Monday, March 9, Renfe will add 1,134 daily seats to the Avant high-speed service connecting Lleida, Tarragona, and Barcelona during weekdays to improve regional mobility.

This 50% capacity boost is driven by the deployment of Series 106 trains. These high-capacity units offer 581 seats per journey and feature significant improvements in accessibility and energy efficiency compared to the older Series 120 models currently in use.
The decision follows a mobility study identifying peak travel times. Extra capacity will be allocated to the 07:05 and 19:23 departures from Lleida, and the 18:05 and 21:30 services leaving Barcelona, addressing long-standing requests from regular commuters.
