The candidate from the Activem Barcelona list, considered to be closely aligned with the party's national leadership, secured 393 votes. He triumphed over the Construïm Esquerra Barcelona candidacy, led by a city councilor, who garnered 236 votes.
The republican party highlighted the high turnout in the election, which proceeded without any incidents. The official proclamation of Ricard Farin as the new president is scheduled for Saturday, April 18.
Farin takes over from a previous president, who stepped down after more than half of the permanent committee resigned and a new congress was called. Since November, a management committee has been leading the party in the Catalan capital.
“"We have people who voted for different options in the last congress, both in Barcelona and in the national congress."
The election of the new president of the ERC-Barcelona federation occurs just one year before the municipal elections, in which a prominent party figure will be the candidate. This candidate enjoys majority support from the membership, following primaries where no other contender came forward.
The new president, who has the endorsement of the municipal candidate and the party president, aims to overcome the
“"paralysis and the noise of internal disputes"
and align the local federation with the party's national strategy.
