Following a chaotic week of constant interruptions, including the death of a train driver due to a retaining wall collapse, the Rodalies de Catalunya service began with the planned reduced schedule and the implementation of buses to compensate for the lack of trains. The crisis led to the dismissal of Rodalies Operational Director, Josep Enric García Alemany, and the Adif Maintenance Manager, Raúl Míguez Bailo.
“"The service is being provided with reasonable normality, within what was planned."
Despite the defense of “reasonable normality” by Renfe spokesperson Antonio Carmona from the Sants station, passengers protested the constant delays. At 7 AM, users of the R2N line reported that scheduled trains had not departed, causing overcrowding and preventing many travelers from boarding subsequent vehicles.
To mitigate the situation, Renfe has implemented 10 alternative transport plans while infrastructure repairs continue, mobilizing 146 buses, 700 informers, and offering free passes for users. Additionally, several digital tools are available to check the service status in real time, such as Transporta’m.cat, the official Renfe website, the Adif app, Ferroviaria.cat, Rodalinets.com, and Puntual.cat, which analyzes historical delay data.
