The Rodalies train service has returned to paid status since Saturday, following three and a half months of free travel, with 96% of the service recovered, but users continue to report incidents.

The free travel measure was decreed due to disruptions caused by a railway accident in Gelida. Despite the almost complete recovery of the service, travelers are demanding substantial improvements before the reintroduction of regular fares.

"Until it works well, correctly, they should extend the free service."

Some users, such as a resident of Cerdanyola, habitually opt for alternative means of transport, like the bus, due to recurring problems with Rodalies. Another traveler, a resident of Sitges and frequent user of the southern corridor to Barcelona, noted that the service has not been functioning correctly recently, a situation exacerbated by works in the Garraf tunnels and limitations on the southern section of the network.
The return of fares comes after more than three months of free travel, a measure promoted by the Generalitat to compensate for numerous works and disruptions stemming from the late January storm and the fatal accident in Gelida. Since Saturday, recurring passes and regular tickets for Rodalies and Mitjana Distància are once again valid.
The platform Dignitat a les Vies has described the return to paid service as "unwise," citing the service's poor reliability and reminding that works in the Regionals Sud area and incidents on lines such as the R13 and R15 are ongoing. The entity also lamented that on Saturday morning, users experienced problems with the extension of remaining days on monthly passes, an issue that was resolved by early afternoon.
