The old town of Roquetes will begin a historic transformation starting in September with an investment of 2,008,000 euros. The works, which will last a year and a half, will affect more than twenty streets located between Rebull Street, Balagué Street, Major Street, and Sol Street.
The project is planned to be executed in two phases to minimize disruptions for residents. The first phase is scheduled to commence at the start of the school year, covering Sant Roc Street, Sol Street, Rebull Street, and Santa Elena Street. A second phase will focus on Balagué Street, Sant Roc Street, and Major Street, although the latter is not within the main work area.
In all affected streets, sidewalks and pavement will be renewed, the potable water network will be replaced, a new rainwater drainage system will be installed, and the sewage system will be improved. Furthermore, almost all streets will become single-platform, meaning without traditional sidewalks, to enhance street width and comply with regulations.
The water network renovation will include replacing the old asbestos-cement network, incorporating new sectorization valves to limit water cuts in case of breakdowns, and new hydrants distributed throughout the streets to assist Firefighters. For the first time in this area, a specific rainwater collection network will be installed, which these streets previously lacked. Concurrently, all sewage connections and potable water network connections for homes will be renewed.
To reduce disruptions during the works, the City Council will set up three provisional parking areas for residents, located in front of the CAP de Roquetes, on Pare Romanyà Street, and in the City Council parking lots. During the first phase, three loading and unloading zones will also be created on Sant Ramon Street, Major Street, and at the municipal parking facilities.
To keep citizens informed, a dedicated WhatsApp channel will be established to communicate the impacts of the construction work.
