A disused gas station in the Sant Antoni neighborhood of Barcelona continues to be a source of neighborhood concern and a safety risk, especially for cyclists, seven years after its closure.

An old Cepsa gas station, located at the intersection of Ronda de Sant Pau and Carrer del Marquès del Campo Sagrado in the Sant Antoni neighborhood, has been abandoned for approximately seven to eight years, since it ceased operations, according to Google Maps data. The facility, which includes a kiosk on the sidewalk, shows signs of vandalism and decay, and its continued presence is causing concern among residents and road users.
The ombudsman of Barcelona, David Bondia, already highlighted the situation of this gas station in 2024, deeming the municipal action ineffective. In a resolution, he recommended updating the signage for the bike lane and the road to ensure cyclist safety, as the gas station is located right next to a bike lane.
Although the City Council confirmed at the Sant Antoni neighborhood council meeting in June 2024 its intention to remove the gas station soon, and that the Eixample district was awaiting permits from the Catalan Waste Agency, the situation has not significantly changed. The ombudsman's resolution recalled that there had been complaints from residents regarding the facility's condition.
Despite improvements made by the City Council's Mobility department in early 2025, such as the installation of a bicycle parking area and the placement of separators to prevent the bike lane from being occupied, the turn from Ronda de Sant Pau onto Carrer del Marquès del Campo Sagrado is still considered "very dangerous" for cyclists and scooter users. Large vehicles, such as TMB buses or garbage trucks, have been observed encroaching on the space designated for cyclists when turning.
