Sant Cugat leads salaries in Catalonia, exceeding 54,000 euros on average

The town in Vallès Occidental surpasses the Catalan average by almost 22,000 euros, with Barcelona and Castelldefels also among the highest earners.

The town of Sant Cugat del Vallès tops the list of Catalan municipalities with the highest gross annual salaries, reaching 54,549 euros, nearly 22,000 euros above the Catalan average.

According to the latest data from the Institut d'Estadística de Catalunya (Idescat), the salary gap between Catalan municipalities is significant. While the average annual income in Catalonia stands at around 31,700 euros gross, Sant Cugat del Vallès stands out with a figure exceeding 54,500 euros. Other locations such as Castelldefels (38,500 euros) and Barcelona itself (36,400 euros) are also above the average.
In 2024, most municipalities with over 50,000 inhabitants have seen an increase in gross salary income compared to the previous year. The largest rises were recorded in Sant Cugat (+5.9%), Mollet del Vallès (5.7%), and Granollers (5.6%). The only exception was Manresa, which remained practically stable.
The report also highlights the persistence of the gender pay gap, with an average male income of 34,400 euros gross annually compared to women's 28,700 euros. Sant Cugat and Castelldefels also lead in this aspect, with both men and women being better remunerated. Conversely, Santa Coloma de Gramenet shows the lowest pay.
By sector, communications, finance, and real estate recorded the highest remunerations (45,500 euros), followed by public administration. However, in Sant Cugat, Tarragona, and Castelldefels, the industry was the sector with the highest incomes.
Regarding contract type, employees with permanent contracts earn an average of approximately 38,800 euros gross annually, while those on temporary contracts receive 25,700 euros. Sant Cugat once again is the municipality with above-average salaries for both permanent (56,700 euros) and temporary (36,000 euros) workers. The lowest salaries for permanent contracts are found in Santa Coloma de Gramenet (25,700 euros) and for temporary contracts in Manresa (20,100 euros).
In relation to working hours, full-time employees earned around 34,000 euros gross in 2024, while part-time workers received approximately 18,700 euros. Sant Cugat again leads the list with 58,800 euros for full-time and 27,700 for part-time positions. Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Granollers register the lowest figures in this category.
