The human tower ('castell') festival of Sant Fèlix commenced with a moving tribute to Manel Huguet ‘Gatsby’, a recently deceased member of the Castellers de Vilafranca. The four participating 'colles' (teams) each erected a five-story pillar of farewell, in silence and with solemnity in the square.
The first round was characterized by a high level of performance. The Colla Vella dels Xiquets de Valls opened the 'diada' with a skillfully executed 4d9 'net'. The Jove de Tarragona followed with a 5d9f, also completed with conviction. The Castellers de Vilafranca presented the first ten-story 'castell' of the day, the 3d10fm, which they had previously achieved, demonstrating great mastery and dedicating it to ‘Gatsby’. The Colla Joves Xiquets de Valls concluded the round with a 4d9net, which, despite some difficulty, they managed to complete.
The second round maintained the high standard. The Vella de Valls attempted a 4d10fm which ended as 'charged' after an initial collapse. The Jove de Tarragona completed another 3d10fm, a challenging but successful build. The Castellers de Vilafranca struggled with their 4d10fm, which broke at the 'quints' level. The Joves de Valls closed the round with the Td9fm, which required intense effort to complete.
The third round saw more gamma extra 'castells'. The Vella de Valls completed a difficult 4d9 with 'agulla' (needle), facing challenges during both ascent and descent. The Jove de Tarragona added a third gamma extra 'castell' with the Torre de 9fm, completed with effort. The Castellers de Vilafranca joined in with a 3 de 9, showcasing their control over this structure. The Joves de Valls attempted a 2d8sf which finished as 'charged'.
The 'diada' concluded, for the first time in history, with 12 gamma extra 'castells' in the regular rounds. The pillar round was equally exceptional, with the Vella de Valls completing an eight-story pillar that overcame a significant wobble, marking their best-ever performance at Sant Fèlix. The Jove de Tarragona also completed a magnificent eight-story pillar, achieving four gamma extra 'castells' in a single 'diada' for the first time.
