This Monday, June 24th, Sant Joan day, most shopping centers in Catalonia will close their doors, although some dining and leisure areas may remain open.

The Sant Joan festivity, marking the start of summer, is a public holiday during which many establishments adjust their opening hours. Unlike other holidays, the Generalitat does not designate June 24th as a general commercial opening day for most shopping centers.
Regarding supermarkets, the situation varies. While chains like Bon Preu, Aldi, Lidl, and Mercadona typically follow the municipal calendar and close most of their stores in Barcelona and Catalonia, others such as Caprabo, Condis, Dia, Consum, and Carrefour will open some of their establishments.
Bon Preu and Esclat will close most of their nearly 150 supermarkets in Catalonia, but their EsclatOil gas stations will maintain their usual hours. Caprabo, acquired by Eroski, has variable hours per store and recommends checking its online locator. Condis, with over 568 establishments in Catalonia, will keep usual hours in many of its stores, as they often open on holidays.
Carrefour will open some stores in Barcelona, particularly in tourist areas, and most Carrefour Express outlets. Lidl and Aldi, which usually do not open on holidays, will have some exceptions in tourist locations like Barcelona, Salou, or Roses, with reduced hours (12 PM to 7 PM for Lidl, 12 PM to 8 PM for Aldi). Dia may also open some establishments with special hours, depending on their location.
Mercadona, true to its policy, will remain closed for Sant Joan. Consum will open some of its supermarkets with special hours, while others will close. Supercor, part of El Corte Inglés, is expected to have stores open from 7 AM to 2 AM in some parts of Barcelona. Finally, Alcampo anticipates that most of its stores in Catalonia will be open, although hours may be modified.
Given the variability in opening hours, consumers are advised to check directly on the website of each chain or specific store to confirm if their local shop or one in a tourist area will be open and what its hours will be during the Sant Joan holiday.
