The Sant Jordi 2026 celebration will bring significant mobility disruptions to central Barcelona, with traffic closures and restrictions starting on April 22 and lasting approximately 30 hours, transforming the area into a large literary super-block.

The core of the disruptions will be centered on the large literary super-block which, once again, will be set up around Passeig de Gràcia. From 10:00 PM on April 22 until 4:00 AM on April 24, circulation will be prohibited within the perimeter defined by Avinguda Diagonal, Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, Balmes Street, and Pau Claris Street. Additionally, this year the pedestrian zone will extend towards Portal de l'Àngel towards the sea and along Gran de Gràcia towards the mountain.
Within this area, private vehicles, bicycles, and scooters will not be allowed to circulate. Bicing stations within the literary super-block area will also be suspended. Although circulation will be permitted on alternative routes such as Aragó Street, València Street, or Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, a concentration of traffic and slower travel times are expected. Therefore, the city council recommends using public transport, especially the metro, or walking.
The restrictions will also affect parking, as parking will not be allowed within the perimeter from 8:00 PM on April 22, and access to private parking lots will be closed during the same period. Residents will need to remove their vehicles in advance if they require them between April 22 and April 24.
Waste collection services will also undergo changes within the perimeter of the Eixample literary super-block. From April 17 to April 25, recycling containers will be removed. On the night of April 22, there will be no commercial waste collection, and on the morning of April 23, glass from businesses and domestic organic and residual waste bins will not be collected. The furniture collection service will also be suspended on the same day. The city council advises residents and businesses to plan their waste management to avoid leaving it on public roads.
