Breastfeeding is a key process for the bond and adaptation between mother and baby, often generating doubts. For this reason, the Hospital de Sant Pau has organized the II Breastfeeding Conference, a meeting open to families to share knowledge and resolve concerns.
The hospital's Delivery Room midwife, Maria Camacho, highlights the importance of healthcare support in the face of information circulating on social media. The conference aims to provide this professional guidance so that families feel supported.
During the event, common issues such as milk production, pain during breastfeeding, and the use of support materials were addressed. Professionals like nurse Jessica Molina debunked myths, such as the belief that creams heal cracked nipples, emphasizing that a good latch technique is fundamental.
The hospital has professionals trained as breastfeeding counselors and IBCLCs (International Board Certified Lactation Consultants) to offer ongoing support through specialized clinics. Emphasis was also placed on breastfeeding premature infants, highlighting that with adequate support, it is also possible.
A central message of the conference was the need to support each family's decisions without pressure or judgment, prioritizing the well-being of the mother and infant. It is recalled that, while promoting breastfeeding, it is important for each mother to feel secure and accompanied in her decisions regarding her child's feeding.
