The Department of Territory has launched a tender for a seven million euro project to upgrade the Can Boixeres workshops and depots on Barcelona Metro Line L5.

Located in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, the works are scheduled to begin next summer and will last for 15 months. The primary goal is to expand train parking capacity to meet the growing passenger demand on one of the city's busiest metro lines.
According to TMB technical reports, the L5 line needs to increase its fleet to 47 units to alleviate overcrowding. The renovation will create space for two additional commercial trains and include the installation of solar panels for self-consumption on the new facility roofs.

"These works are key to improving the transport system and guaranteeing the good condition of the network."

This project is part of a larger investment plan by the Generalitat, which recently allocated 18 million euros to the Sant Genís depots on L3 and is currently renewing the signaling system on L4.
