The Catalan Government activated a maximum alert this Thursday, February 12, as a severe windstorm hit Barcelona with 160 km/h gusts, forcing the closure of all educational centers.

The weather event has caused significant damage across the metropolitan area, Vallès, and Maresme. A potential record of 160 km/h was recorded at the Port of Barcelona, while Puig Sesolles in Montseny saw gusts of 167 km/h.
Under the Vencat red alert, schools and universities were shut down, and non-urgent hospital appointments were cancelled. Emergency services (SEM) treated 25 individuals for injuries related to falling debris and trees.
