A new firearms incident occurred in the La Mina neighborhood of Sant Adrià de Besòs this past Saturday, heightening concerns about public safety and the spread of weapons in Catalonia.

The La Mina neighborhood in Sant Adrià de Besòs was the scene of a new firearms incident this past weekend. According to various sources, it involved a double altercation on Saturday afternoon, with an initial burst of shots fired into the air around 12:00 PM on Camarón avenue, while sports facilities were being dismantled, followed by a response around 1:45 PM near Carrer Mart and Ponent street. The shots were reportedly triggered by a dispute between two families.
The City Council of Sant Adrià de Besòs has expressed its intention to demand "more action in citizen security" from law enforcement agencies to help contain these episodes, which are recurring with alarming frequency. This incident adds to other similar events recorded in the neighborhood since late April, including a fight that led to shots being fired and the subsequent shooting of a parked car. Fortunately, there were no injuries in Saturday's incident, nor any clear evidence of disturbances when officers from the Mossos d'Esquadra and local police arrived at the scene.
Given the recent succession of firearm altercations, the council will reiterate at the upcoming Local Security Board the need for "more identifications, more searches, and therefore, more police presence saturation" in La Mina. These demands come amid other similar incidents reported in various Catalan towns over the weekend, such as in Badalona, where a 10-year-old girl was slightly injured by a stray bullet, and in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and Tordera.
The incident in La Mina, which involved shots fired during a community event with young people present, has raised concerns among neighborhood associations. Despite fears of stigmatization, they believe these altercations should not be normalized. Last year, the Barrio Educational Project in La Mina already called for an "immediate self-protection plan" to respond to serious incidents and protect minors and residents.
