This weekend, Barcelona becomes the hub of the Global Progressive Mobilisation, a summit bringing together dozens of prominent figures from global socialism and progressivism, including Spanish President Pedro Sánchez and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. In this context, Daniel Sirera, leader of the Popular Party in the Barcelona City Council, has chosen to offer a unique welcome to the attendees.
Sirera has installed several posters on lampposts along the Gran Via, near Plaça de la Universitat, featuring messages in Spanish and English addressed to the socialist leaders. These posters include data on urban security, such as
In socialist Barcelona, there are four sexual assaults and one rape every day.
and
Welcome to Barcelona: take care of your belongings, there are 281 robberies every day.
Sirera's action, according to him, aims to counter the progressive discourses of the summit with "official data" and to showcase "the real Barcelona". He also expressed his dissatisfaction with the potential absence of Pedro Sánchez from the city streets and the alleged "laziness" of Mayor Jaume Collboni.
During the poster placement, a Mossos d'Esquadra patrol approached Sirera to inquire about the activity. The popular leader stated that the officers had received a report regarding "posters against Sánchez".
