The Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) is facing a major backlog in Barcelona, with a lack of examiners causing waiting times of up to six months as of March 2026.

According to the Barcelona Driving School Federation, between 58,000 and 59,000 candidates are currently on the waiting list. This bottleneck is preventing new students from starting practical lessons across the province.
The crisis is attributed to a limited number of staff and a lower passing rate, which has dropped from 50% two decades ago to 30-40% today. To address this, 36 new examiners are being added to the Barcelona workforce, representing a 50% increase in staff.
