Minister Pablo Bustinduy announced in Barcelona that Spain will ban the sale of energy drinks to minors under 16 years old to promote public health.

The Ministry of Social Rights and Consumption is drafting a law to prohibit these sales. For drinks exceeding 32 mg of caffeine per 100 ml, the ban will be extended to all minors under 18 years old.

"This measure has broad social support, as 9 out of 10 people agree with this prohibition."

Data from the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) shows that 25% of surveyed youths consume these drinks twice a week. This new regulation follows last year's ban on energy drinks in schools and will be accompanied by new rules on unhealthy food advertising.
