The Supreme Court has annulled a specific article in the FC Barcelona statutes, approved in 2018, which prohibited club members from transferring their seats for financial compensation in Barcelona.

The ruling targets a reform introduced by Josep Maria Bartomeu's board following a massive resale scandal during the Clásico against Real Madrid in May 2018. The court found that the club failed to provide members with adequate information regarding the specific changes before the assembly vote.
As a result of this decision, the previous regulations are reinstated. Members are now legally allowed to transfer their season tickets as long as the price does not exceed the official rate set by the club. This effectively ends the mandatory use of the Seient Lliure system for those wishing to monetize their unused seats.

"The transfer of the season ticket through the 'seient lliure' system must be a voluntary option, never an obligation imposed under threat of sanction."

Legal experts suggest this ruling opens the door for thousands of Barça members to claim damages for lost income over the past seasons. The club is currently facing this legal setback amidst an upcoming presidential election cycle.
