The Manuel de Pedrolo Institute in Tàrrega will report the Department of Education to Labor Inspection due to the persistent lack of measures to combat high temperatures at the educational center.

The Manuel de Pedrolo Institute in Tàrrega has announced it will report the Department of Education to Labor Inspection. This action, supported by union prevention delegates, is being taken due to the persistent lack of steps to address the high temperatures affecting the school.
The decision is based on data collected by the 'Aules que Cremen' (Classrooms on Fire) platform. As explained by Gerard Balcells, occupational risk prevention coordinator and a teacher at the institute, the prevention services in Lleida were alerted last year. A subsequent report, after measuring 30 degrees Celsius in classrooms, confirmed the need for preventive measures.
Despite implementing actions such as cross-ventilation and adjusting blinds, technical measures pending from the Education department, including improving enclosures, installing awnings, or air conditioning, have not been carried out. The goal is to maintain temperatures between 17 and 27 degrees Celsius, as per current regulations. Balcells reported that despite repeated requests, no execution schedule has been provided.
The situation has recently worsened with rising temperatures. This past Tuesday and Wednesday, when temperatures reached 31 degrees Celsius in first-floor classrooms, several classes had to be moved to the courtyard. Hallways were filled with students using portable fans and other methods to cope with the heat.
Given this scenario, the institute believes the situation compromises the occupational health of the teaching staff and the students' right to education under adequate conditions, leading them to involve Labor Inspection.
