Retired cabinetmaker and carpenter Jordi Llorens, 90, transformed his retirement at 66 into a new intellectual phase in Barcelona, dedicating himself to writing seven books about Catalan art.

The story of Jordi Llorens is a testament to vitality and passion after professional life. Since retiring, he has dedicated his time to the study and artistic creation, becoming a recognized expert in ceramics and Catalan art, a hobby that began as a distraction.

"I made a mistake retiring; since then I have written seven books and I go to yoga once a week."

Jordi Llorens · Former Cabinetmaker and Writer
Llorens comes from a lineage of cabinetmakers with more than 180 years of tradition in Barcelona, having been born himself in front of the Cathedral. The family business, now run by his children as the fifth generation, has evolved from manual labor to collaborating with architects on high-level projects, such as the reconstruction of furniture for Casa Batlló.
Despite his dedication to art, Llorens confesses that he did not want to retire, as he intensely enjoyed his work. Following the loss of his wife, to whom he was married for 61 years, he found in painting and writing a way to maintain his vitality and gratitude for life, assuring that every night he feels like a privileged man.

"I enjoyed working a lot; if someone asked me whether to retire or not, I would tell them not to do it."
