Thousands of protesters marched through central Barcelona this March 20 to denounce precarious working conditions in schools, marking the end of a week-long strike across Catalonia.

The demonstration gathered between 35,000 people, according to the Guàrdia Urbana, and 100,000, according to the USTEC union. The march started at Plaça de Tetuan and moved along Passeig de Sant Joan to Parc de la Ciutadella, joining forces with healthcare workers protesting for public services.
Protesters expressed strong opposition to the agreement signed between the Department of Education and the CCOO and UGT unions. Organizing groups, including USTEC, Professors de Secundària, CGT, and Intersindical, claim the deal does not represent the majority of the sector.

"Public education is standing tall and is not willing to remain silent."

Unions have called on President Salvador Illa and Minister Albert Dalmau to resume talks next Tuesday at the University of Barcelona. They warned that without a policy shift from the Government, the conflict could disrupt the remainder of the academic year.
