The Provincial Court of Barcelona began the trial for part 21 of the Mercuri case this Tuesday, where three defendants confessed to creating a fake invoice to hide undeclared construction work.

During the first session, Melquíades Garrido, president of the Sabadell Builders Guild, admitted to arranging work without an invoice at the Sitjas Motor dealership. The original agreement involved bartering the construction for vehicle service discounts.
The other two defendants, Antoni Sitjas and José María Caballero, also admitted to the facts. They explained that they created a fictitious document worth 1,845.68 euros to avoid tax surcharges and justify the building expansion to the local council.

"The work was done, but the date is shifted."

Prosecutors are seeking 3 years in prison for Garrido and one year for the other two. Following their confession, the defense aims for reduced sentences and lower fines, which currently stand at up to 28,000 euros.
