A 52-year-old man was found dead this Tuesday on a bench in Elisa Reverter Square, marking the third death of a homeless person in Badalona since the start of the year.

The victim, identified as Jordi, was a former local butcher whose business had failed. Mossos d'Esquadra officers confirmed that there were no signs of violence, pointing to natural causes as the reason for his death in the coastal city near Montgat.
This incident follows two other fatalities within the homeless community on January 6th and February 21st. The recurring tragedies have put the social policies of the city council under intense scrutiny by local activists and residents.

"There is neither a shelter nor an emergency center, which are fundamental in a city of 200,000 inhabitants."

The administration led by Mayor Xavier García Albiol stated that the man had repeatedly declined social services. However, the group Badalona Acull argues that the city lacks adequate facilities since the closure of the Can Bofí Vell shelter in 2024.
