Several Renfe train drivers spontaneously gathered at Sants station on Friday afternoon to protest the insecurity and haste in resuming the R1 line service after a landslide.

Sants station, the largest in Catalonia, became the scene of a spontaneous protest by Renfe train drivers after a landslide cut the Rodalies R1 line. The workers voiced their discontent, claiming the service was resumed without sufficient safety guarantees on the railway line.

"We are very scared, many colleagues are requesting sick leave, who can go to work like this? It is inadmissible. We have fear, insecurity."

Safety was the most criticized point. A representative of the CGT pointed out that a more serious accident was avoided on the stretch between Tordera and Maçanet because a colleague reduced speed to 30 km/h after receiving a warning about an unprotected level crossing, despite inspections carried out the previous night.
The train drivers harshly criticized the rush by the administration and railway officials to restore the service. They claim that despite guaranteeing safety certificates after the checks on Thursday, on the first day of resumption they were close to suffering another serious incident.
