The urbanization works on Gran Via, which include the doubling of tram tracks, are progressing as planned. The current phase will conclude next week, allowing for the full resumption of tram service on line T4, passing through Glòries, and the section between Glòries and Ciutadella | Vila Olímpica on lines T5 and T6.
This week, tests for power, alignment, signaling, and communications have been carried out in the area. From Monday onwards, disruptions to the tram service will be limited to a partial closure of lines T5 and T6 between Glòries and Sant Martí de Provençals.
Furthermore, tomorrow, Friday, September 11th, the mountain-side carriageway of Diagonal avenue, between Llacuna and Badajoz streets, will reopen to vehicular traffic. This will allow for the resumption of the usual route for urban bus lines 7 and N7, as well as the reopening of the bidirectional cycle lane. Lines H12 and N2 will also operate along Diagonal towards Llobregat.
These works, promoted by the Barcelona City Council and the ATM (representing the Generalitat de Catalunya), include the elimination of the single track on Gran Via to replace it with a double-track platform, which will increase the network's capacity. This platform will be shared with buses. The tram's route is also being modified through Ciutat de Granada street and its course on Diagonal avenue on the sea side is being rectified.
The total investment for the project amounts to 32.54 million euros. The City Council has financed 23.30 million for urbanization and tram infrastructure, while the Generalitat, via ATM, has contributed 9.24 million for the doubling of Gran Via. These amounts are in addition to the 12.89 million for the first phase assumed by the City Council and the 46 million for the infrastructure already executed by the Generalitat.
