A Turkish Airlines flight carrying 162 passengers from Istanbul made an emergency landing at the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport on Thursday morning after receiving an email bomb threat.

The airline reportedly received an email during the flight warning of the possible presence of an explosive device on board. Following the alert, the airline notified the competent authorities, who immediately activated security protocols.
Sources close to the airport confirmed that the plane was escorted by two fighter jets while flying over the Mediterranean until its landing in Barcelona. The aircraft was directed to a non-operational runway to safely assess the situation.

"Everyone here was a little alarmed at first."

Despite the initial concern among airport staff, the incident was managed discreetly. The plane was moved to a remote area for inspection, while the rest of the airport's operations continued normally, with no cancellations or interruptions for other companies.
Once on the ground, security forces searched the aircraft and passengers. The airport confirmed that, after the alarm was deactivated and protocols were completed, air traffic quickly returned to normal operations on Thursday.
