Around two hundred people gathered this Wednesday, March 25, on Sant Agustí street in the Gràcia neighborhood to prevent the eviction of a local resident.

The building at number 14 was purchased two years ago by New Amsterdam Developers, a company planning to convert the apartments into coliving spaces. Txema Escorsa, who has lived in the block for eleven years, faces losing his home as the new owners refuse to renew rental contracts.

"How much money is the government willing to spend on a police operation so a Dutch company can kick Txema out of his home?"

Enric Aragonès · Spokesperson for the Tenants Union
The Tenants Union has called for the intervention of the Ombudsman of Barcelona to mediate. The protest follows a night of cultural events and concerts featuring artists such as Maria Hein and Ginestà, highlighting the community's resistance to illegal housing practices.
