The strike affects services for blue zones, green zones, resident permits, loading and unloading, motorcycles, and coaches, all managed by the municipal company Barcelona Serveis Municipals (BSM). The call to action, promoted by CCOO, will occur every Saturday and Sunday starting August 8 and will continue until January 16, 2027.
The union is demanding the return of salary deductions applied to workers following a previous strike. That initial protest was due to a modification in working conditions that mandated working on Sundays and holidays, a measure later deemed unjustified by a court ruling which ordered the restoration of previous schedules and the reversal of deductions.
Despite the judicial resolution, some workers have had to file individual claims to recover these deductions.
CCOO has not signed the new collective agreement for the 2026-2029 period, negotiated with BSM and approved by other unions such as UGT, SIA, and CGT, representing 70% of the workforce. The union denounces two points in the new agreement that they believe contradict previous agreements, calling the situation "bad faith bargaining".
For its part, BSM considers the strike called by CCOO "disproportionate" and argues that the new agreement, approved by majority, has "democratically" resolved widely debated issues. The company highlights that this agreement has helped to de-escalate a previous conflict and incorporates improvements in pay, working hours, and labor organization.
