Teachers in schools and institutes across Catalonia are called to another day of strike this Wednesday, the third in Barcelona this May, demanding salary and labor improvements.

The organizing unions —USTEC-STEs, Professors de Secundària (ASPEPC-sps), CGT, and Intersindical— are maintaining the strike schedule despite advances in negotiations with the Department of Education. The government has committed to creating a salary supplement of around 35 euros and the recovery of 'sexenios' (seniority increments). Despite this rapprochement, the unions consider the proposal insufficient and are demanding substantial improvements.
The spokesperson for the USTEC union, Iolanda Segura, expressed optimism regarding the afternoon meeting, expecting progress towards a salary increase of between 400 and 500 euros spread over three to four years. She assured that any proposal would be put to a vote. The Sindicat de Professors de Secundària warns that they will propose further scenarios if real and effective negotiations are not reached.
Coinciding with the strike, a demonstration has been called in Barcelona from Pla de Palau to Drassanes, featuring a popular paella and cultural activities. Early in the morning, a helicopter from the Mossos d'Esquadra flew over the city preventively to monitor potential incidents during the demonstration.
Students from institutes and families are also joining the strike. The SEPC had already supported previous stoppages, and the new Platform of Families in Support of the Educational Strike has also expressed its backing. Furthermore, workers from Fundesplai's colony houses have also joined the strike, with significant participation from monitors.
