The new phase of works, extending until August 6, involves installing 56 of the 101 precast slabs that will form the future tunnel roof. These pieces, measuring 12.3 meters long and 2.4 meters wide, will partially cover the highway to allow for the installation of lighting, ventilation, and safety systems.
The work is being carried out at night to minimize disruption to mobility. A large crane is being used, affecting the side lane of Vall d’Hebron promenade and requiring total closures of the Ronda de Dalt between exits 5 and 6 from Monday to Thursday. Full tunnel coverage is expected to be completed throughout 2027.
Mayor Jaume Collboni highlighted that this project represents a "significant qualitative leap" for residents, enabling the "reconnection of neighborhoods," the creation of public and green spaces, and the pacification of the ring roads.
Once the precast slabs are in place, work will focus on installing cabling, security, and ventilation systems, with permanent occupation of the slow lane between August 3 and 24. This intervention continues the coverage already completed between the Mercat de la Vall d’Hebron and the institute, adding 340 meters to the existing covered length.
The estimated investment for the structural works is approximately 12 million euros, with an additional 20 million euros allocated for the tunnel's coverage, installations, and finishes. This project addresses a long-standing citizen demand and is part of a city-wide agreement to transform the road infrastructure.
